Priya Shalauta is a San Diego-based artist with deep roots in music and skateboarding culture, which have profoundly shaped her creative outlook and artistic style. Specializing in printmaking, Priya primarily works with intaglio and relief techniques, while also exploring screenprint and monotype processes. She earned her B.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in printmaking from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.
Growing up immersed in skate culture in Southern California, Priya developed a keen eye for bold, dynamic compositions that reflect movement and attitude. Her time spent in tattoo shops—immersed in a world of rich tradition and craftsmanship—has deeply influenced her design sensibility, sharpening her appreciation for bold line work, thoughtful compositions, and the balance between detail and negative space. This unique blend of experiences informs her precise execution and strong graphic aesthetic.
Priya’s work honors the artistry of traditional tattooing while championing greater representation of women in the arts. Through her prints, she bridges subcultures and art forms, creating pieces that are both visually striking and culturally resonant.
